Where there’s a will, the Twitter trolls are out to kill, and some harsh critics have lashed out about Demi’s new tune comparing it to another famous pop hit, but we’ll let you guys be the judge…

So although the song is bound to be the next summer jam, some fans’ didn’t exactly get the greatest first impression. Comparing the song to Katy Perry’s first ever single “I Kissed a Girl,” some Twitter users aren’t all that impressed. So let’s investigate a little deeper shall we?

After hearing a clip of ‘Cool for the Summer,’ let’s take a time machine back to Katy Perry’s biggest confession yet:

Maybe it’s because of Demi’s lyrics that say, “Got a taste for the cherry, I just need to take a bite,” which are closely related to Katy’s lyrics when she reveals she also has a thing for cherry chapstick? Or could famous producer Max Martin be to blame for mixing two similar hits? I don’t know about you guys, but I’m hearing two completely different songs.

Many Twitter uses, however, had their own opinions, as we’re all entitled to. Some rather harsh user comments have said things like, “didnt know demi lovato turned into katy perry, yikes,” and “Am I the only one who didn't realize that cool for the summer was the equivalent of ‘I Kissed A Girl?’”

Similar or not, this song is officially first on my summer playlist, and Demi could not be more proud of the quick success. She posted a video to her Instagram of her and her team rocking out to the song, saying QUOTE, “THIS IS SO EMBARRASSING I HAD TO POST IT!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU ELVIS DURAN!!!!!!! LOVE YOU!!!!!!!#COOLFORTHESUMMER.” The song has also hit #1 in multiple countries world-wide, including Brazil, Ecuador, Finland, Greece and Spain.
